This course also teaches the process for analyzing learners and their needs, as well as defining the instructional problem and goals. There are no prerequisites for this learning experience design course. If graduate school is in your future, our accelerated bachelor’s to master’s program allows prospective students who meet the requirements to complete up to 12 credit hours of graduate coursework as an undergraduate student. For admission to the Accelerated Instruction Design & Technology BS/MEd program, students must schedule a meeting with their undergraduate faculty advisor and graduate advisor to discuss and develop a degree plan.

Our programs are designed to meet the unique needs of a master’s student. We’ve structured the experience in manageable pieces to help you earn your degree with support from faculty, staff and online resources. Students will be provided an overview of learning theories and instructional strategies used in the field of instructional design and technology. The Boot Up Orientation is scheduled prior to the start of the first semester.

This Master of Science program is for people who want to change the world through research, creativity, and innovation. From enhancing medical training technologies to designing educational apps, instructional designers are essential for organizations that wish to leverage technology for learning in a dynamic world. Today’s students seek online courses that leverage digital media to create highly engaging and personalized learning experiences. This program emphasizes theories of learning and cognition, multimedia design and development, systematic instructional design, technology and open learning environments. The curriculum couples hands-on, technology-based coursework with theories of education, learning and human performance. Candidates learn to develop effective, cross-media curricula for diverse audiences.
As part of the Master's degree, students complete a research paper and create a digital instructional product. This requirement is completed during the final semester of the program in IDT 550 and IDT 597. Since the culminating research project and practicum are essential program components, it should reflect each student’s overall professional goals and learning goals. Students should have preliminary ideas about their research and digital instructional product. You can apply your teaching skills and build on your prior content knowledge, skills, and expertise. Given the diverse career tracks in instructional design, this program offers students the flexibility to customize their course of study based on individual goals and interests.

When you complete your MSIDT degree, you will also earn a certificate in Instructional Design and Technology. The certificate is one way to share your knowledge about instructional design with future employers. During the fourth semester of the program, students participate in a mandatory midpoint research symposium. At the midpoint symposium, students review progress to date in relationship to individual professional goals and learning outcomes, students confirm their final research project and practicum activities, and work intensively with a program advisor. Learning Experience Design Foundations II is the second of two foundational courses that provide the foundational knowledge and skills learning experience designers need to create human-centered, goal-oriented learning experiences. Continuing to the third, fourth, and final phases of the Design Thinking Process, this course teaches the process and importance of ideation as well as rapid prototyping.

This community of learners will be the focus of your capstone project at the end of your program and other assessments throughout your program, and you will need to identify this group during your first term.
This event is mandatory and part of the program's requirements for graduation. After all transcripts are collected and your application status is considered complete, our admissions committee will review your application. You may be notified as early as 2-weeks after all transcripts are reviewed with an answer. Students who have earned a 3.0 or higher accompanied by their bachelor's degree from The University of Tampa qualify for our guaranteed admissions track, which also waives some application components. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of how and why people learn. Designing E-Learning Experiences for Adults is the first of two courses in the adult learning designer pathway. This course teaches best practices for supporting adult learners as they acquire knowledge and learn new skills and dispositions. This course explains effective approaches to designing learning experiences for adult learners that are collaborative, experiential, and transformative in nature. This course also explores problem-based and competency-based approaches to designing learning experiences for adults.
